Research Into Similar Products: Double Page Spread House Style.

Double page spread NME- researching house style.
This is a double page spread featured in NME music magazine. I have been researching different double page spreads to gain inspiration as i am currently in the process of improving upon my first draft. One thing i did not really have in my original double page spread was a house style, as i notice in this NME double page spread, the main colour is red, i feel the red colour really stands out and is also featured on Rita Oras outfit, which is something i feel i can do and re create within my second draft. Each image i have taken that could potentially use for my double page spread has the colours maroon and navy blue featured on, which i feel are two colours that links in with the house style of my front cover and contents page but are also two colours that will stand out to the readers.

Organisation: secondary images.

For my contents page i decided to create images with the first letter of the band name/artist name as i felt this was a good way to enbale readers to recognise which stories linked to which artist. Knowing that i have put a filter on my main cover image i want these theme to run throughout my magazine, so i have added the same effect on each of the images i will feature on the contents page.

 Featured band WILDFIRE:

FEATURED SECONDARY ARTIST: Shawn Stevens, i changed the name of my secondary artist as after i knew this was the theme i was going for, the readers may get confused having two W's over the images, so to make the artist stand more i have changed the name.

 MAIN ARTIST: Poppy Suede.

Orginisation; change in title

After finalising another draft and adding in my headline 'slay' I realised the name gives a different vibe to the magazine I was actually looking for as you'd usually conotate the word 'slay' with heavy metal/hard rock and this goes against my particular chosen genre I have gone for which is pop, so after much consideration I have chosen to change the name of my magazine to give it a more pop music vibe.

The name I have chosen is VIBRATION.
I chose to have this name as I feel it is quite a basic yet bold name to have which will stand out to my specific target audience and work well with the theme of my magazine. I also took inspiration from the magazine 'VIBE'.

Drafting and planning: New double page layout and final article.

Here is my new layout for my double page spread, i have copy and pasted my original article to see how much writing i can fit on the page whilst still having a image in the side, which i have not yet decided what image i will be using however i have labelled the spot i want the image to be featured on and will be cutting out any background so that it blends in with the colour scheme of the double page spread. I have also decided to keep the blended out P however i am now placing it in the middle to tie the articles together.

As i have talked about in previous posts, i am changing my story line into a more dramatic eye drawing article, in which i have chosen my main cover line to be 'A fan was in my hotel room!'

the official article will now be:

'We caught up with Poppy Suede earlier this week where she told us the most shocking story of her finding a crazed fan in her hotel room! however angelic Poppy still found the humour in this and stated "my fans are crazy, thats for sure, but if there's no crazy there's no fun!' Poppy explained to us the story start to finish, she was on her world tour and stayed in the plaza hotel in New York city, when she was on her way back up to her hotel room she was stopped outside her room being swarmed by all sorts of fans,Poppy being Poppy, she stood by for a good half an hour taking pictures and talking to her fans. "I was so distracted by talking to all my lovely fans, I completely forgot my key card was still in the door, I also forgot about it when I went into my hotel room and didn't realise i hadn't had it when i left my room for my evening show!" when the British star left her hotel room for her show, one of the crazed fans had snook into her room. "luckily i had forgotten my water bottle(i never leave without it!) in my room and had to go back, when i came back, there was a fan taking a selfie in my room, with my water bottle!" Poppy says when she walked in the room the fan was so startled and began to cry and begging her to not call the police, poppy later ordered  security to leave and took pictures with the fan giving her free tickets for the nights show. " no matter how crazy my fans are, i love them all the same!"

Researching into similar products: double page spread.

After gaining feedback upon my first draft for my double page spread i felt this was my weekest area and that i need to improve upon this, in doing so i decided to research some more ways i can improve my double page spread.

here is a double page spread I have found from NME in which i have found many good qualities.
something i like about this and wish to replicate is the use of the cut out of the artist. The image of the artist has no particular back ground and is neatly placed on the page, so in seeing this i am aiming to have my artist cut out and placed on a plain coloured back ground so that the image is on the left hand side I also like the use of the 'USA' faded into the background which is something similar i can do with the 'P' on my original draft.

Drafting and Planning:

Cover lines and main cover line:

for my original draft I used a main cover line for my artist saying 'my friends are the reason im here literally!' However this was just thought off on the spot and i feel i need a more drawing attention cover line to make the magazine seem like it features more complex juicer stories, therefore i have researched different magazine front covers that use interesting main cover lines.

the main cover line here in the top right hand corner is extremely effective as it aims to draw the readers in with the line 'We'll be the first band in space' and having such an extreme line makes the band seem more interesting as the story could possible be true and if so readers will want to read on.
