after researching into different magazine articles and looking into what is on the front cover i have decided it is time to start planning out the certain things i need on my front cover to make it look professional and mimic the style of a real pop music magazine.

 some of the things i will be planning to include into my magazine is:

a bar code- this is vital as most magazines use this on their front cover.

the date line and price of the magazine.

the magazines name and logo.

a skyline.

a main cover line.

cover lines.

i will also need to ensure that my artist is the main feature of the magazine in the sense that nothing is as big or as bold as the artists name and story and nothing draws attention away from their story.

here i have researched into fashion magazines to see what type of outfits my artists could wear for my photo shoot to represent my artist as a pop music teen to aspire to my target audience which is teenagers.

as you can see the artist looks very casual as she wants to blend into today's society and be classed as one of them to ensure she is no different to them and respects their style.

my aim for my artist is to be represented as an ordinary girl as i want to represent them as an equal to the rest of society as i feel it gains quite a lot of respect from public and it is also what i want to represent my unique artist as.

for this reason i will be researching and finding clothing i can find similar to represent my artist in this particular way to ensure i am portraying them to my specific target audience and making sure i do this to the best of my ability.

A common aspect of an artist to be recognised is the way in which they would usually dress, and having my target audience set towards teenage girls I have decided to look into some key fashion magazines to see what they would be wearing as I myself am a teenage girl so it would be most likely I'd have some of the clothing they'd also be wearing.

I feel having similar clothing would allow teen girls to see my artist as 'one of them' and be able to feel as if they really connect with the artist which is what most artists set out as there aim in life.

Organisation: props and photoshoot

As I have previously discussed my aim for my artist is to have someone who represents pop music and in this case I feel having someone with a musical instrument could be interesting for my target audience as it features something the artist is known for and represents their musical talents.

However I have also noticed artists(mostly rap artists) wear some sort of jewlery with an individual symbol on it or some sort of accessorie to showcase their personality, I will therefore be looking into something I could use for a prop and give detail on why I have chose this later on.

To start further research into my final project I need to decide on coming up with an artist name, so I have came up with a few artists names, these are;

I feel the best option for me is starsinyoureyes as I like the sound of it and would fit into the genre of my magazine and the target audience.

Orginisation: photoshoot.

i am planning to set up a photo-shoot sometime in the upcoming week in a local park for the front cover of my magazine. I have looked into the area I am taking the pictures and decided to take it in an area with near by trees and greenery where I felt the lighting would benefit the images and would make it so the images look professional for a professional magazine cover.


Throughout the week I will be looking around the park more for a suitable place to take the images and sort of getting a vibe of the area so I can interpret a way to show my artist. I will make the artist stand out and look as if they fit the setting with greenery surrounding them.

Drafting and Planning:

I have previously posted a blog revolving around the idea of a visual thesaurus, being the fact that I need to come with an individual name for my magazine, I have decided to look upon the word 'star' this is because I have previously decided on the name 'StarsinYourEyes'


I feel the name is quite basic and could do with some individually for the magazine and my intent is to do this, so maybe coming up with another name would be beneficial and good for my cover.

Remake- Remodel, Peer Assesment.

Following my remake of a Billboard magazine I showed it to my class mates and got given feedback on what I could improve upon and what I did well.

what went well:


Having the text in boxes made it easier to read and made it more effective as the design stood out to audiences as it was different that other magazines and gave it a unique design.


  I also got given the feedback that the fact I used yellow colours to highlight key parts of my magazine such as cover line, main cover line and more was useful and effective as it allowed the reader to see the main house style as the colour yellow is featured in the magazine masthead of 'billboard' and also highlighted key parts of the magazine.


I was then told my use of photography was also effective as it represented the kind of artist Tise actually was as it featured him with quite a certain 'swag' to him. My main cover line was effective I was told because it fit in with the cover star and gave a hint of the main story.


Even Better If:


I was told from my classmates that the writing underneath the main cover line needs to be bigger in order for it to stand out from the other cover lines as it is supposed to be the main source of attraction and wasn't big enough to gain attention from all else on the magazine.


I was also told that the image I cut out of Tise wasn't neat nor was it done properly, this was because I had accidently cut of parts of tise's hand and did not rub out any of the excess black dots that appeared once I cut out the background.


I was also told that one side of the cover was full of information and text and the other side was completely blank which made the cover look un even and sort of un professional and did not really draw in the attention of readers.




In my final product as I start to make my new magazine I will consider all these improvements in order to make it look more professional and make the magazine itself look better than the one I have created here.

House style

- after researching more into magazine front covers I feel to make my magazine more effective I need to decide on a house style to reflect highly on the personality of my artist but also on the magazine its self, I have therefore came up with a list of things I need the house style to be in order to make my magazine more effective.

-The main cover line and other cover lines need to be shown with a bright colour as my artist is to be shown as bold and bubbly.

-The colours are also to be standing out so therefore will only be used for cover lines.

-the colour may also need to reflect upon whether the logo/masthead has a colour or not to ensure the magazine will be recognisable and links in to a chosen theme.

Target audience.

For my target audience I have decided to go for teens and up as my main artist inspiration Ariana Grande's target audience would be the same. The use of the house style is very effective as the pink colours highlights the artists personality as she is very girly and bubbly and I feel the pink colours will highlight this and make it so the target audience can see this.

The use of having the layout in this way also makes it effective as Ariana is the main source of attraction for the magazine and the different cover lines, titles, etc. are pushed a side and are still in the attraction of the audience however they still know what the storyline is actually about.

Here I have decided working on the drafting and planning of my magazine and said everything id like to feature of my front cover based upon my research into similar products on what is on a front cover of a magazine.


I have decided to add in a skyline as it could feature offers for my target audience and draw the readers attention into my given magazine. I have also added in a cover star as one of the biggest things in the magazine because it is the most significant thing on the front cover and features the specific artist for the main story and also features the artists name and a hint of the story line underneath so as soon as someone sees the name and a hint of the story they will be drawn in and want to read the whole story which will be more profitable for the magazine. I have also added in a barcode, date and price here as it is something most featured on magazines and is something that is vital for the magazine.

Remake and remodel task

I decided to remake a billboard magazine with my friend Tise on the front cover. I looked at the cover so I could pick out all the codes and conventions in which are clearly shown throughout. I can see many flaws in my remodel which I will get into later but I can also see some good things in it.

I decided to add a masthead that is similar to the one that was featured in the original and I kept the house style the same as the main colour is still a bright yellow which fits in to the logo of the magazine. I also added in a barcode with a date, price and website which was much like the original again however I also recognised having these are essential for the magazine cover. The original photo was in black and white so I used an editor to make the image of Tise in black and white.

some of the flaws I have in my cover are that the way I cut out Tise left over some over some marks so it does not look neat nor does it look professional. The original cover has the cover lines in a white coloured writing, however if I did this it wouldn't have shown up so I had to make do with having the writing in black, this I felt was down to having just a pure white background and I did not like the way the photograph looked to finish with.

as I said I am going to create a different version of a billboard magazine cover, so I decided to take some images I thought would be effective on the front cover.

Research into similar products

I have also decided to look into NME music magazine covers so I can have a variation of choices in which I can pick to re create for this given task.

Rihanna, the star of the cover, is a Pop music artist and as I have discovered NME represents pop music singers in a bold character sort of way to get the audiences attention and uses creates the house style to match the personality of the artist, for example the colours here are not bold but fun colours that stand out.

Target audience research

As I am planning on recreating a billboard magazine cover I have decided to look into target audiences for the magazine so I know exactly how to replicate the cover.

From looking at many other covers I have realised to main theme is pop music, so this is useful for me as I am creating a pop music artist so it is fitting to use billboard magazine as a template.

You can also tell the target audience is teens and over as the title is very fun and enjoyable to look at with it the colour variation throughout to grab the audiences attention.

Research into similar products

As I said in my previous post I am looking into magazine covers I can re create. To start with I thought this would be a good one to re create as I admire billboard music magazine covers and feel they are really effective to look at.

However now looking further into it there is really no codes and conventions that I can pick out and stand out like the other magazine covers, so I feel this option isn't really something I can do effectively.

For a given extended task we were told to re create a music magazine and after looking into music covers I decided this may be the one to re create.

I feel creating this magazine may be beneficial as it has ariana grande on the cover and creating something I'm basing my artist off may help me down the line as I start to make my final task of a music cover.

This cover also has everything we have looked in to for research into similar products so it will be interesting for me to come up with something along the lines of this.

I have also looked into Q magazine to get more variety of choice for which music magazine I could re create.

After looking at this Q magazine I decided I need to analyse this because of the idea of having a band on the front cover and how they are represented on the front cover of a magazine. As you can see the band here are represented in a happy sort of silly way that portrays them in a fun way to their given target audience and I feel this is really effective to use on a front cover.

Drafting and planning- Layout

I have created here a layout for the front cover my magazine and decided to add things I think would make the magazine more desirable to look at and benefit the chosen cover star.


I have chosen to add an advertisement as I feel this is something that most magazines often have and would surely be something that the magazine has to offer as a sort of benefit for having the magazine as you'd be getting something out of having the magazine and I feel that this something most magazines have to offer in order to get a profit on there sales.


I have also added some key things most magazines have such as a mast head, main cover line and a cover line as I feel this is something a normal magazine would have and it is vital to have these key aspects of a magazine front cover page.
